First appearing in 1931, the Martin D-28 Dreadnought model was based on models built for the Oliver Ditson company in 1916. These were produced for a few years for Ditson, but Martin didn’t make it a regular model at the time. At first, it had a 12-fret neck but in 1934 the 14-fret neck was added, a nod to migrating banjo players.
